OUR VISION FOR TOURISM

 Current situation:

Cameroon’s tourism sector is one of the country’s most powerful yet underutilized assets. Often called “Africa in Miniature,” Cameroon brings together an extraordinary variety of landscapes within a single nation, including lush rainforests, open savannas, volcanic mountains, flowing rivers, powerful waterfalls, and unspoiled Atlantic beaches.

This natural beauty is matched by rich cultural diversity, with hundreds of ethnic groups, traditions, festivals, and historic sites spread across the country, including several UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

In total, Cameroon is home to an estimated 930 recognized tourist attractions, ranging from wildlife parks and forest reserves to cultural landmarks and mountain destinations. Few countries on the continent offer such depth and variety in one place.

Yet, despite this remarkable potential, tourism remains a relatively small contributor to the national economy. The sector currently accounts for about 4.1 percent of GDP and supports roughly 15 percent of jobs, both directly and indirectly. International arrivals have remained steady at around one million visitors per year, a figure that reflects stability while also highlighting how much room there is for growth.

With strategic investment, modern infrastructure, stronger promotion, and thoughtful preservation of its natural and cultural heritage, Cameroon’s tourism sector has the capacity to become a major economic driver. It can create jobs, attract foreign investment, and position the country as one of Africa’s most compelling travel destinations.

In short, the beauty is already there. The opportunity is waiting to be claimed.
